Come To Battle Prepared

Delivering a speech is never an easy feat especially for the bashful type of people but anyone can do it and do it well by preparation, practice, and experience. Here are a few helpful suggestions to gather up that courage and stand with confidence as you deliver your speech.
Giving a speech is similar to going to a fight-- you must come to battle prepared. Determine the type of speech you are going to deliver. Is it for the purpose of narrating an event, persuading your audience to do something, explaining a process, etc.? Days before giving your speech, research about the topic and make sure it includes the important points that will make your performance interesting and informative. Study your subject well. Confidence in delivering a speech can be gained by making sure that you know your topic by heart. Make sure to use of catchy words and phrases to keep your audience’s attention and for them to never miss an important detail about your speech. Master the language of which you are going to deliver your speech with.
Write your speech on paper and give time for practice. Solicit helpful ideas from friends or family. You may want to practice your speech in front of the mirror so you would know how you have to express your ideas especially with your hand gestures and facial expressions. You don’t have to memorize your speech, you just have to understand the content and the meat of your message. You may also want to write your general outline in an index card which you can use to glance at every now and then in case you have trouble remembering the entire thing. Observing your classmates as they deliver their speech may also be helpful for you. Take note of their strong points and try to incorporate them on your own. Avoid making the same mistakes they did.
On the day of your speech, make sure to dress appropriately according to the theme of your topic or of the event. Don’t get to your introduction right away. Look your audience in the eye and smile at them. Keep calm and breathe deeply before delivering your speech. You can pace around the podium to keep your nerves in control. Don’t let your nervousness get ahold of you. Enjoy delivering your topic and the audience. End your speech with a little bow.

Whether you are going to have a speech or writing, preparation is always necessary and optimal because it will provide help and confidence in everything you do.
