The generation today are is far different from the ones from a long time ago. Identity is number one in the question among others. Their moral, emotional and spiritual values are lower than before. For that reason, the bright future that their parents or they themselves envisioned are replaced with suicide or becoming teen parents instead among other results. These problems may be traced to the following root causes.
Their spiritual need which greatly affects identity is the major cause of this dilemma. When a person doesn’t know His identity in Christ, he is inevitably going to fall for whatever will give him self-worth. Many problems then spring out of this identity crisis such as low self-esteem, depression, vanity etc. As you would notice, people nowadays are more obsessed with getting admiration and self-gratification and it starts at a very young age. Kids no longer like to play like how kids should but enjoy entertaining themselves with technology or being in relationship with the opposite sex. Teens try to impress others with what they have and still feel empty and worthless even with everything they possess. Adolescents easily give up their purity trying to find love and security from who they thought was meant for them only to end up abandoned and feeling used. Adults seem discontent with their own spouse and seek out new pleasures outside which then result to broken homes. All these result from a lost and unidentified spiritual need.
As a matter of fact, they are greatly loved and cherished in the eyes of God. If they weren’t, He wouldn’t have to send His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to redeem them from their worthlessness and sin. He’s reserved for them a new identity through Him and they can only gain this if they admit their need of Him and get in a spiritual relationship with Him. They can then finally embrace completeness and never succumb to the lies of this world about how a perfect life should be.
A person in a relationship with the Lord would have no great trouble like the person without no relationship with Him has because He knows who He is in God’s eyes and he believes the Lord will help Him through it all. Man’s identity should be seen in the eyes of his Creator rather than in the eyes of this world.
