I am afraid to cross the roads. I especially hate it when I am crossing around 8 am because that means rush hour traffic is likely happening. The road where I cross used to have a pedestrian lane, but now that it’s faded, I fear that pedestrians would have to be quick if they want to be safe from harm.
Traffic is not uncommon in places that are industrialized and economically going well. The buildings multiple, food houses and snack bars with ‘instagrammable’ backgrounds are slowly getting famous, and the traffic becomes horrible. They said that you can tell if the city is flourishing by the amount of cars the citizens have. I am happy that my city is flourishing but I am also concerned of the stories of disgrace happening recently and one after the other. There was a story of a mother and daughter who got squashed under a ten-wheeler truck while another lost a year in college after she was hit by a drunk motorcyclist while walking in a pedestrian lane. These people are impatient and their impatience caused the life and sorrow of others. I also heard a fellow student from my university who crossed the road when the traffic light counted 5 seconds until the cars are given the go and was hit by a jeepney making a fast turn. She lost her life when she tried to save her time, thinking that she can make it for her exam.
Even if you’re running late, if the traffic light shows STOP, then please stop. Don’t let those who jaywalk or those who disobey the rules goad you to make a run for it. The law will not be on your side if you get injured for crossing the roads when you disobey traffic lights and traffic enforcers.
