When they are home, most parents or guardians nowadays leave kids in the care of gadgets to keep them occupied for the time being. While this may work at present, its consequences are far-reaching and may be negative to the kids and the society as well. We are responsible for the future generation and for this reason, we must train them to be what our society needs today. That is, responsible, obedient to the law, conscientious and of good influence to others. I don’t think we would want our future generations to be so dependent on gadgets for entertainment and learning leaving behind mere house chores unattended or simply ignored because whether we believe it or not, it all begins at home.
Training should begin with the little things and progress until the kids are ready to take on bigger roles. By doing so, we would be able to teach them responsibility at a young age and be a part of building them into responsible, considerate and conscientious citizens of our society. Making their own beds, folding their own clothes, washing the plates after they eat are just little things but they are building blocks to who the kids are to be if we have a vision for them. If we don’t want our future communities cluttered with young people or adults who only go after fun and enjoyment and always going about blaming the government for what they don’t have, we must inculcate diligence and initiative on every one as much as we can. If they grow up with these two characteristics along with other good ones, we would produce good leaders in the future.
It is undeniable that technology has made us too dependent on it, lazy and impatient. Or perhaps we just haven’t brought right discipline in the use of such. It is never wrong to indulge ourselves in gadgets and technology as long as it has produced results, but if it’s all we do all day, then it already becomes a problem.
Some parents just give in to what the kids want thus ending up spoiling them. However, we should keep in mind that we will soon be gone and one of the greatest legacies we can leave behind to these kids are the characters we can teach and impart to them. They will soon grow up to be adults and how would they be to the society if they weren’t taught and trained well at home? Training kids at a young age require consistency and dedication. It may never be easy but it is always worth it. We must remember that we aren’t training for the present only but we are training for life.
