True or Fake Love

There is a topic that enlivens a boring discussion especially when the audience are young people. Love is such a word that wakes the sleepy mind and makes the ears stand out to hear what is spoken. Young people have different definitions of love but how do they really know if it’s true or not? Let’s take a look at some few definitions.

True love waits. Sounds cliché but yes, true love waits unlike the “untrue” one. The person who truly loves will wait for you to be ready emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually and financially. He/she won’t just dash out asking you to give your all because it may be too late if not right at the moment. A person must be sure of himself/herself before involving himself/herself with another. He/she must know his/her identity and his/her dreams, ambitions, goals and plans before getting into relationships that will somehow have him question everything. If couples just took thought of this truth, we won’t hear of breakups for the reason of finding one’s self first.

True love is selfless. The person won’t be thinking about what he/she’d get from the relationship or the person but more about what he/she can give to the other. It is never too difficult to give when you truly love the person because their best will always be taken to mind. Every couple will have a harmonious relationship if both thought of what’s best for the other. 

True love looks beyond what is seen. It sees potentials and looks forward to building the other up to reach these. It readily forgives mistakes, forgets the past, and focuses on the good rather than the bad. It sees beauty in the beloved like no other can. That’s what true love is.

We can look at the cross for the ultimate of display of true love. Jesus selfless love for us was what nailed Him to the cross. He loved us enough to give His life for us because He looked beyond our fault and saw our great need. Even now, Jesus is waiting patiently for us to acknowledge Him and the love He wants us to feel. The Lord Jesus is the Source of true and lasting love and we can look to His example to find our true love.
