Wherever you go, this topic is one of the most relatable. We sympathize and hurt for those who are unfortunate in love. Whether it be in the form of spoken poetry, comics, memes, and even just plain words, we feel the heartbreak that they feel. How is it possible though? How can everyone feel what you have felt? How can lines like ‘the love I gave to you whole, you returned broken in pieces’ make our heartthrob and nod sympathetically?
Those unfortunate in love are not only categorized with the love for a girlfriend/boyfriend. It could be that the love we gave for our friends, parents, and even enemies get rejected, and that hurts. We give our effort, sometimes at the cost of our heavily-guarded hearts, and it still isn’t enough to receive the love we crave from our parents, friends, and someone special. One post that I could remember began like this: The teacher told his students to give him an example of a sentence which ends with a question. One student raised his hand and said ‘I love you’. The teacher became irritated and told him that it was obviously not a sentence that ends with a question. He replied ‘If it is not a question. Then why do we expect a reply?’ Awwww. An arrow just went in your heart right? It is because humans are naturally empathizers. We empathized with the Thais when their kids got trapped in a cave for 2 weeks. We empathized with Selena when pictures of her crying surfaced on the Internet after Justin’s engagement. And lastly, we empathize with everyone who is broken, traumatized, and unfortunate with matters of the heart.
This is humanity. The fact that we can relate to how others feel would prompt us to help in any way we can. This God-given ability gives us the power to share what we have with those who do not have it. Are you one of those unlucky in love? Don’t worry. Everyone here experienced being unfortunate in love at some point in our lives.
