Active Parenting Means Preparing Our Children For Life

Being a parent and caring for child can be a wonderful experience but at times, parenthood can be daunting and overwhelming as you make decisions about your children’s upbringing that may be quite new to you. The way we treat our children directly impacts what they believe about themselves. If we continually try to encourage a child to do what he/she is afraid to do, they will become strong and will use brains and energy to explore the unknown and to find ways to face the pressures we put on them. Further, if we try to push a child beyond the limits of his courage, he is sure to get braver to face hardships in life.

But sometimes, the struggle in parenting challenges can't be solved with clever hacks. Sometimes you need to take a deep breath and recharge your soul. I am trying hard to escape the parenting rat race by reminding myself that we are not here to protect them from reality but to support them as they actually face it. Life is not perfect. Children are not perfect. Parents are not perfect. It’s okay if our family doesn't look perfect, because it isn’t. But maybe, just maybe, allowing our kids to face the ugly realities of life will yield some beautiful results.

Parenting is NOT no--sweat, well it does involves lot of sweating of the body, mind and heart. But at the end of the day, children are here to train us to become a better person, hopefully become wiser and more fulfilled in the process of raising up babies into independent adults. Our children need to be loved, cared and supported by us parents – and they too need to ready for a life ahead of them.
