I was just rolling in my bed, scrolling and scrolling in my newsfeed when everything suddenly went black. Brownouts are frequently experienced in the province so we do not scream like crazy anymore when it suddenly happens. We would get irritated and grumble that we have a lot of things to do and when this brownout would end. Anyone who was working in a computer would curse in frustration because their files were not saved. Someone sighed in resignation, thinking of the paper works that would have to wait. Another would suffer since his induction would not work without electricity, leaving him hungry.
Brownouts are a hassle. No matter what, we can only sigh and sigh and wait for it to return. Some would choose to go to malls and stay there to cool off or call the electricity company every 15 minutes to rant about the inconvenience it brought. However, people often just stay in their homes. The lack of technology forced them to put their phones and tablets down, to leave their computers sets and talk with each other. Surprising how we can only talk without hindrance when we put down a ‘barrier’ which is our gadgets. We are so dependent with technology we use it from ordering things to making ‘friends’ online. We neglect our friends who are not online and just beside us in favor of people we never personally met.
Brownouts actually gave us a chance to talk without the use of technology and that is great, right? My sister and I also go outside to appreciate the light pollution-free skies. We are always looking down our phones; we neglect to watch a more fascinating view which is the star-filled night sky. The galaxy becomes visible whenever there are city-wide brownouts, reminding us that we are so blessed to be able to live and to see such beautiful creations.
The next time you experience brownouts, be happy instead of irritated. This is the time you can have fellowship with your family and neighbors. This is the time you can go outside and appreciate how God painted the sky the night sky, just so you can see. Brownouts are truly blessings, don’t you think?
