The term Ayurveda originates from India. While the Philippines has the same approach when it comes to traditional and holistic medicine using herbs that cure diseases.
These are the following herbs that young people don't know. It's rare to find these days due to lack of space to plant and the interest of people has been shifted to synthetics which are easier to purchase over the counter.
The following are herbs and uses.
Akapulko or Ringworm bush
Scientific name: Senna alata (L.) Roxb
Uses: Discharge of intestinal parasites
You can utilize seeds, leaves, and flowers.
Leaves can be boiled to treat skin diseases, eczema, itchiness due to insect bites.
Will also treat allergies. Men use Akapulko masculine wash to protect themselves from bacteria and viruses.
Lagundi or Five-leaf chase tree
Scientific name: Vitex negundo Linn
Uses: Utilize leaves, barks, and flowers which serves as anti-inflammatory astringent, muscle relaxant and aphrodisiac.
Leaves and seeds used as condiments.
Sambong or Blumea camphor
Scientific name: Blummea balsamifera
Uses: Antispasmodic and astringent
Sambong tea is known to be a relaxant and treat kidney stones
Yerba Buena or Corn mint
Scientific name: Mentha arvensis Linn
A native herb in Europe but the Spaniards have introduced to the Philippines.
Use as spice and tea. Mint flavors to salads and sauces. This is used as antitoxin in wounds, cure dizziness, headache, toothache and more.
Can be used as an essential oil for aroma and relaxant.
Pansit- Pansitan or Shiny bush
Scientific name: Peperomia pellucida L.
Anticancer, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory and antioxidant
All part of this herbs could be utilized or consume like salads and the extract can be used as a tea to treat kidney stones and infections.
The safety of this herb and its medicinal properties are proven and not just a legend due to the wide usage and consumption in the past.
I think these are worth space at home to grow and multiply to prevent extinction.
