I love watching dramas. One of the common scenes I always encounter when watching is the ‘in-laws fighting’ scene. It could be the mother-in-law gets jealous with the attention given to the wife. It could be that the sister-in-law always asks for money, irritating the husband. There are also scenes that the mother-in-law tries to dispose the wife so she can be the one to handle the finances, making her the ‘queen’ of her kingdom. When I encounter movies with scenes like these, I just smile, since I thought that they are not really true.
However, in-laws fighting are actually common. Those scenes are real life scenarios for some. You hate your son’s choice of wife, but you can’t do anything but bicker with the wife, since she does not like you too. I have heard stories of the wife bickering with the husband, telling him to stop being a ‘sissy’, going to his mother’s home whenever they fought. She then accused him of sleeping with his sister who was ‘prettier and sexier’ than her. The mother-in-law was so enraged she cut off their allowances, making them penniless. A daughter-in-law of my aunt’s friend also backbites her mother-in-law whenever her husband arrives from abroad, telling others that Mommy is like a ‘gold digger’, always asking for her son to buy her nice shoes whenever he comes home. Brother and sisters also refrained from talking in public, since doing so would make the wife fight with the brother. She would go spitting mad whenever she sees her sisters-in-law going near her husband it is so ridiculous to watch. One of the possible reasons would be that she is afraid the sisters will ask for money.
Some cases are funny, most are not. This kind of war can catch the husband and the children in the crossfire. The husband and children must choose between the two people they love, hurting one when they choose the other. It is mostly sad since one must abstain from greeting the other when one is around. How can this be possibly stopped? Talking can help. You should be honest with the other, telling her what you don’t like and vice versa. The war can only cease if both sides make a move to give the other the chance to start anew. If you are currently having a fight with an in-law, you should settle your differences since you have something in common, for you love someone who they love too.
