A goal as defined is an observable and measurable end result having one or more objectives to be achieved within a more or less fixed timeframe. Goals are your stepping stones to achieve your ultimate dream. Here are some guidelines on setting a goal:
Set Goals that Motivate You
Make sure that you set your goals that is important to you. Goals which have values in achieving them. Goals which makes you interested in the outcome. Motivation is the key to push you to achieve your goals.
Set SMART Goals
Probably the SMART goals are already familiar with you. That just means setting your goals to this format is universal. Anyhow, this is what it stands for:
· Specific – your goal must be clear and well defined. It should be easy to understand where you are going by stating where you want to end up.
· Measurable – you should indicate precise dates, amounts and etc. so you can measure your degree of success.
· Attainable – make sure that the goals you set are possible. You may set challenging goals however it must be realistic.
· Relevant – Your goals should be relevant to your ultimate dream. It should be aligned with the direction you want to take on your life.
· Time-Bound – Any goals must have a deadline. When you have a deadline, your sense of urgency increases and achievement will come much quicker.
Set Goals in Writing
When you put something into writing, it makes it feel real. It will also serve as your reminder, a pact to yourself you should work on. It is also a confirmation of your desire.
Stick with It
Goal setting is just an early step to achieving your dreams. Build reminders and track your progress.
And as you set your goals, remember this saying: “a goal without action is just a wish.”
