The most favorable among its positive impacts is connectivity among individuals. People from anywhere can connect with anyone. Regardless of location, it connects people – building friendships, strengthening and enhancing relationships by providing ways to communicate with each other even across the miles. Social media allows people to interact with each other, share thoughts and emotions through online conversation and video calls as if they are talking face to face.
It is undeniable that social media bridges connectivity among people especially those from afar however, it also breaks the personal, intimate relationship among individuals who are in close proximity making them feel so distant from each other. Instead of hanging together, friends most often prefer to converse virtually by creating a group chat; couples tend to bond via video calls rather than having a physical date; and family members living inside a house checking on each other through messenger instead of talking with each other at the dining table or living room.
More often people receive compliments from people in their posts online rather than being praised personally; cheering friends through a Facebook post instead of a personal, moral support in their endeavors; and grieving over the death of someone which is not close to them rather than attending a wake of a love one. For many years, social media has impacted the lives of most people, both in a positive and negative way. It connects but also separates.
