Growing up is a hanging bridge in our life, something to walk carefully on in order to avoid falling into a deep hole of immaturity. Adulthood for some is freedom, to others, it is being flung on your own without preparation. There's a lot more to being an adult than just paying the bills.
Being an adult means balancing all your expenses. You won’t be able to run for your parents when you run low on funds. You have to seek jobs and start saving. You will have to pay for your home, food etc. The sooner you start saving, the better. Being an adult means having the ability to make your own decisions and deal with the consequences. You have to be smart about the choices you make. There is a lot more to being an adult than meets the eye. It’s taking the responsibility for your life.
An adult is much more than turning at age of 18. It means they are able to take care of themselves physically, emotionally and financially. When I exhort myself to act like an adult, it is demanding myself to be more modulated in dealing with things that upset me. There are 2 things that make you be an “adult”.
1. You recognize your flaws and try to work on improving them and being comfortable on your own.
2. You think about the welfare of others before yourself (could be family, friends, etc.)
Many people included myself aren’t really adults by my own definition, at least not all the time. It takes time but that’s what life is about. After all, you have your entire life to be an adult.
