Even if I was not yet born when ‘Titanic’ costars Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio were seen to be ‘potential’ love couples, I am still one of the people who totally believe they should be one. Kate and Leonardo would always be asked during interviews if they ever thought of becoming a real couple and they would reply ‘no’. How can they not see that they are meant for each other? They would even dedicate their awards to each other, telling the other that they love them ‘so, so much’. I think love, as in for a wife and husband, really did appear for the two. However, when it presented itself, neither of them grabbed the opportunity, and love like that went and never showed its face again.
If asymptotes made you feel sad, intersections would make you feel frustrated. Intersections are what we call potential couples who are so perfect for each other but remained just friends. These couples can still be both single and yet they have no plans of ever becoming the others’ ‘special half’. What we do not know with intersections are that there is a possibility that one is actually in love with the other but is afraid to try because their friendship can be jeopardized.
I have a friend who was an intersection. He was in love with his friend but his friend was, as he perceived, not into him. They would go on trips with other friends, take care of each other, and generally were each other’s ‘other half’. Few years later, they are still single. He finally told her that he loved her for a few years now and if she is willing, they should get married. She told him that if only he told her when they were younger, she would have said yes. Her needs are now different in that the qualities she is looking for in a husband was not the same as in the past. After that, they agreed to just remain friends. The girl eventually married someone else.
Intersections are what we can only call as ‘sayang’. Maybe you like someone, yet you are still in doubt that you should have a relationship with her. The time might just be right and you are the one she needs right now. Give it a try. Don’t let your fear get in the way of getting the person you want to be with for the rest of your life.
