How many times it had been said, “I didn’t know how much I loved her until she was gone”, or “I wish I had done more when she was alive”. How sad are these statements are. Look toward the future, to the day when you will lose a relationship. Picture yourself without your parents, your siblings, your friends, or your partner; everything becomes prematurely nostalgic, which will make you appreciate the relationships that you now have in the present. This will eliminate regret, for regret is the sting of nostalgia.
How do to take regret out of the future? Here are few insights:
1. Do everything on purpose. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Discipline your mind to control your emotions and actions. More often people say things they do not mean, usually cause by temporary emotional stimuli only to find themselves sorry in the future for the behavior that was already done. Train your mind and your actions to do everything on purpose and leave no room for remorse in the future.
2. Make relationships the most important thing in life. One should see to it that relationships in life are more important than anything else. Therefore, it should be nourished and cultivated. If human relationships have its proper places in one’s life, then he will be more diligent and be more caring to his fellowman.
3. Plan every relationship carefully and make every experience a sacred one. Each person has few basic relationships in life. One could be a son, a husband, a father, a brother, and a friend. Then he should look carefully with those relationships and plan to be the best in each one.
Life is so brief and no experience can be recalled or redone. For this reason that every experience should be embraced to its fullest. If one makes the most out of every relationship and the most out of every experience, then there will be no remorse.
