The driver frantically looked over his stuff for the 3rd time as the traffic enforcer waited at his side. He’d been ticketed for breaking one simple law--loading passengers in the wrong zone-- and his license was requested for the issuance of the ticket. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to find it so he had to promise the enforcer that he’d go home to look for his license and return to the enforcer afterwards.
It was my first time to witness such a happening yesterday and the enforcer said something to the driver that made me nod in agreement. “For so little an amount as Php 7, you are willing to break the laws only to pay Php 3,000 as fine? That’s just ridiculous!” That statement was not only true to what the driver just did but with everyone in all walks of life. We sometimes make sacrifices for just a little thing not thinking about its repercussions. We sometimes get so driven to finish a job right away even if it not’s thoroughly done only to do it all over again. Or make hasty decisions with only the present outcome in mind without further thought of its consequences in the future.
May this be a reminder to all of us to think hard before taking any step? We should be always conscious of our position and take into consideration what would become of the future if we do what we think is right at the moment. May we always be mindful of the long-term results more than the short ones because like the word itself, it’s just temporary.
