TELENOVELA MADE IN HEAVEN

As Filipinos, we love drama so much. It is evident on the number of telenovelas aired every weekday from Monday to Friday starting from 8:30pm to 11:30pm. Most of the telenovelas aired share the same plot were the protagonist will undergo hardships, beatings, shame, destitution, suffering and a lot more, then, he will slowly rise to the occasion and vow to take revenge to those people who caused him the misfortune.

Every Filipino young and old can empathize with every storyline portrayed in telenovelas. We, as Filipinos and how our country became a nation is a telenovela itself. The Spaniards came to our shores and declared that they have discovered a new land when in fact our country has been established already in different kingdoms and we have been trading with China and India even as early as 1200s. The Spaniards succeeded in their quest of introducing their religion to us and has enslaved us for 300 years. During those years, we lost our identity and self-worth as the foreigner reigned over us and forced us to build churches and infrastructures without any compensation and against our will.  

According to history books, Spain sold us to America for 20 million dollars known to be the Treaty of Paris. At first our countrymen saw a glitter of light in the dark but later it was transformed into woes as the Americans imposed their will against us and those who disobeyed were massacred. Bloodshed continue to happen even in the era of Americans. Then came Japan. They aimed in expanding their empire by invading and ransacking countries in Southeast Asia. When America was defeated by Japan, General McArthur vowed for revenge with his famous words, “I shall return.” Then the allied forces defeated Japan and once again our nation was liberated from the hands of the tyrant Japanese. Then in 1946, our country became a republic and as a nation we regained our identity and value.

All these things that had happened to our country, even with our past presidents and our present administration right now is a telenovela made in heaven. As this nation will live up to its title as the only Christian nation in the Southeast Asia and as the people will continue to pray and humble themselves to God, I believe this country will rise from the ashes. God will expose every wickedness and corruption of this country and He will appoint righteous leaders that will lead the people with His standards. There will come a time that the wealth of this nation will be evenly distributed among its constituent. And there will come a time that every table will be served with good food as the harvester will overtake the planter. Finally, we can look back and say that this drama that had happened to our nation is directed by God Himself
