I like listening to classical music. Music with compositions from Beethoven and Mozart’s time are something that I fancy. When I listen to music like this on loud speakers, my friends would yell ‘We’re going to fall asleep here!’ and proceed to change music that are far too loud or too weird for me.
The music this generation adore also confounds me. Music, as defined by French Composer Edgard Varese, is “an organized sound." Where is the organization when the beats are too loud and the lyrics are always repeating without really being coherent? Is it still music if we do not understand the message it should give and the only thing that carries that song is the beat? I tried playing a song that I did not like but nonetheless got addicted to with my mother and aunts around and they asked me why I was listening to rock n’ roll. That song was a very ‘chill’ pop song and they probably expected me to do a head bang since I am already rock n’ rolling. I see posts of people my age replaying some of the famous songs that was popular during our time and the kids thought it was a bit ‘boring’.
Music for ever generation is dynamic. Songs sung by Elvis Presley are loved by our mothers, while songs by Ariana Grande are famous with our younger siblings. Music, however, will always be the same in that it will always be a source of comfort and happiness for us. We can always listen to music if we feel happy, tired, excited, sad, and depressed, regardless of genre.
