We should be proud of our color

Kdramas, KPop, and anything that starts with the letter K. You know what it means right? K as in Korean or Korea. Filipinos are so enthralled with Oppas, jajangmyeon, tteoboki, and anything Korea produced. We are their number one fan. We are divulging in their culture and traditions and even follow some of it. So imagine the dismay of all who supported and loved Koreans when in a Korean show, there was a man bullied and called a ‘Filipino, Filipino!’ when he was younger and they all said ‘POOR YOU’? How can we, Filipinos, who love them, Koreans, become the object of ridicule?
In Korea, there is what we call Colorism. Colorism is the term used when one discriminates others by their color. It is somehow like racism, but more specific. It does not matter if you are Korean or not, if you do not have the pearly, pale white skin that they often have, you are ridiculed and laughed at. This is a thing that saddens me. People who are colorists are more likely to be judgmental because they judge your status and role in life with just your natural skin color as their reference.
Filipinos are usually born with skin the same color as the ground. This is actually just right for our tropical climate since we do not have the same weather as those from different countries. This kind of skin color protects us by producing color which would alert us that we are spending too much time in the sun and that it is not good. Filipinos are also unlikely to have skin cancer because of our skin’s abilities.
We should be proud of our color. God was never mistaken when He made us Filipinos with darker skin tones and you should instead be thankful to Him no matter what other people say. We should not let others change the way should see ourselves.
