Around this time of year, we may find ourselves asking can I date to a woman, not of my same faith. The Bible gives a very clear answer to this question, however; the Bible doesn’t really talk about dating. In Biblical times, dating does not really exist. In fact, Samson did not ask Delilah to go out for a movie nor Abraham asked Sarah to go out for lunch.
Moving forward, I want to focus first on these two questions:
First, what is dating for? Personally, dating is not about getting to know each other, because even in my own experience, getting to know each other actually happens before dating begins. whether you like it or not, dating someone is opening yourself to someone with the possibility of getting hurt. According to “Proverbs 4:23 keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life" so if you are going to be that vulnerable with someone as to enter into dating relationship with them, make sure to guard your heart and give it to someone who you already know and trust. I believe that a relationship should not stop in dating but with the intent to move towards marriage.
Second, are you compatible? there are 4 important areas of compatibility in any relationship, especially in dating. the first area is Physical compatibility: this speaks to "are we attracted to each other?" that is the reason why we work so well together. Second, Emotional compatibility: are each of you emotionally stable enough to enter into a romantic relationship? Third, Communication compatibility: Both should engage in meaningful, truthful, vulnerable conversation about the things that matters most. number four and the most important area is, Spiritual compatibility. According to "proverbs 3:6 in all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths." As a Christians we are called to put God first in everything we do. And someone who is not a Christian, is not committed to God and is not going to be compatible with you in any way.
So? Can I date to a woman not of my same faith? According to 2 Corinthians 6:14 ‘Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness? The answer to this question is NO! To some point of view, dating holds a different meaning but a Godly relationship should work according to God’s standard and according to the Holy Scriptures.
