Boracay Island: Beauty Revived

President Rodrigo Duterte approved the closure of the Boracay Island for six months starting April 26, 2018.  Boracay Island, the most famous tourist island in the Philippines was shut for a major cleanup and rehabilitation. President Duterte issued Proclamation No. 475 placing Boracay under a state of calamity for six months because of the environmental issues hounding the island, including the lack of a proper sewerage system. “I could not allow this decay to continue; decisive action has long been overdue. Recognizing that we are mere stewards of our natural resources, and I said enough is enough…We intend to restore its environmental integrity, alongside measures to alleviate those whose livelihoods were momentarily affected. Environmental protection and ensuring the health of our people cannot be overemphasized; thus, our actions in Boracay mark the beginning of a new national effort”, said Duterte in his State of the Nation Address last July 23, 2018.
Boracay Island, situated on the northern tip of central Panay Island, is a top destination for local and foreign tourists and its sugary white sand, sparkling night scene, and abundant water sports attracted millions of tourists before its closure. And now, many tourists across the globe are enthusiastic to witness the loveliness of the island upon its scheduled reopening on October 26 or October 27, 2018.
As its reopening is fast approaching, many tourists are speculating on the island’s developments. Tourists who have been frequently visiting the island will surely notice the widening of main roads. The clearing and demolition of structures within six meters from the center of the road on both sides are still ongoing and has brought so much change in the roads. With the implementation of 25+5 beach easement policy in the island, resorts and businesses on the island have removed their violating structures. This makes the beach fronts more pleasant to the eyes. Another significant development is the improvement of water quality in the island. Water quality was the vital reason why the island was closed and now it is one of the key indications that the island is ready for welcome tourists again. Are you one of those tourists who is excited too? Then let’s visit Boracay Island soon.
