Come Home Papa...

I grew up with a father who was and still is an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW). My longing for my father started when I was four years old. The hardest part was the constant worrying and missing but we were fortunate to have a good life. His dedication to our family is simply amazing and we try to show him our appreciation and love for him in everything we do.

A yearning for a father’s love however has been my constant companion. No amount of material things can fill such emptiness within my heart. I have experienced overwhelming times when I was younger and I cried every night. I wished things could have happened differently. I wished we were better off so he would not need to work away from us. I wished I am big enough to work instead of him. Nonetheless, instead of continuing to exhaust my energy on things I cannot change, I focused on my studies and the future.

Though I have already my own family and is of mature age now and do not need much guidance and control from my father, there is still and there will always be this little girl in me that miss her father so much. I miss his hugs and kisses to us his children. Hugging him like it’s the end of the world. Being with him like there is no tomorrow.

To my Papa, I believe with all my heart that in God’s perfect time we will be reunited as one happy family. And we pray and look forward for that time to come. For all our modern day heroes who serve not only their families but our country as well and for those who remain selfless and daring to conquer distance, I am so proud of you all. Though I still long for my father but I promised to myself that when we meet one of these days he will be glad to see that his sacrifices for us are never put to waste.
