They said that interesting things only happen at night. Night life is the highlight of every teenagers who love adventure and fun. Clubs and parties usually start from 8pm to early dawn. People would jam and dance to their hearts’ content, releasing the ‘stress’ they acquired that day. You drink and enjoy passing the time with your friends. You meet someone new at the dance floor, and you wonder if he is ‘the one’ or not. Life is exciting and you want to do it again and again, every, single night.
Night life stopped 14 months ago at the start of the Marawi Siege. First, it was voluntarily, for fear that one would encounter the ISIS in the streets. Then, the national and local governments finally issued a command for curfew. The curfew for minors was 9 pm and 10 pm for adults. For the first months, everyone religiously followed the scheduled and clubs were forced to try other venues of income. Then, people who loved night life slowly started to grumble and moan, protesting the death of their fun. Some of my classmates even experienced spending a night in jail when they were out late drinking their hearts out. Should the curfew be removed? Or is it safer to keep it?
In my opinion, the curfew has more pros than cons. There has been a debate about how there is a theory which states that crimes are unlikely to happen when there is a curfew. This theory was proven last year until now with lower criminality. The lesser people outside the safety of their homes at night, the lesser people will be put endangered by bad elements of the society. Adolescents are also obliged to do their home works instead of hanging out with friends and spending time with people who they are not familiar with. So what is the verdict? The cancellation of night life is actually good and should remain until further notice.
