Millions of years ago, one of the many reptiles that lived on Earth was the Dinosaur. By human standards, dinosaurs were creatures of fantastic appearance and often enormous size. As such, they have captured the popular imagination and become an enduring part of human culture.
Opposite to how dinosaurs and its species were treated before, a “dinosaur” is now loved and treasured by the people of Mati City, Davao Oriental. Many locals and tourists have been captivated by the beauty of the overlooking island that resembles a sleeping dinosaur.
With the scenic view it provides, the Sleeping Dinosaur makes a perfect background for taking photographs enticing travelers and tourist to stop by the roadside to capture the breath taking view.
Other than sightseeing, tourists can now explore the Sleeping Dinosaur through the newly discovered Dino Trail- a wonderful escapade to experience with family and friends. The 20-minute trek lends the hikers with a magnificent view of the beach, which makes suitable for first-time trekkers or visiting tourists.
A single motorcycle (habal-habal) ride for P100 will take tourists from the national highway to the coastal village of Dawan – the starting point of the journey. During the hike along the arm of the Sleeping Dinosaur, the mountain ranges of Davao Oriental becomes visible, set against the landscape of mangroves, fish pens and the crystal clear water of Pujada Bay. To ensure delightful trekking experience, it is advisable for tourists not to visit the Dino Trail during and to capture best pictures for Instagram while not sweating a lot and having less exposure to sunlight; it is preferable to explore the trail during early mornings or late afternoons.
The Sleeping Dinosaur Island is located at the Southeastern portion of the Philippines, Mati City, Davao Oriental and can be reached through a 3-hour drive from Davao City.
