Have you experienced pulling your phone out of your pocket to check notifications or call because you felt it just vibrated? Well, most people had it too. But have you asked what is it? Could there be something wrong with your phone or with your head?
If this has happened to you once or twice, there is nothing to worry about. But if it has occurred many times, then it might be a sign of a syndrome. It all starts with the feeling of being left out and alone because that’s the time when our brain thinks and imagines things happening when it is not.
A survey revealed and estimated that for every 1o0 people in the world, 96 own a mobile phone. Another report showed that the number of smartphone users in the world is expected to reach 2.7 billion by the year 2019. These surveys only prove that the world is drifting towards smartphones. Technology has led us in a vulnerable position-becoming more dependent to smartphones, using it constantly.
The biggest reason why people are experiencing smartphone vibration when it is not is because of addiction. According to a report, 80% of people have experienced the phone vibrating in their pockets when it isn’t and 30% have heard non-existent hearing.
The non-existent buzzing of phones is a result of one’s longing for social need, because all are longing for attention and want to stay in touch with people around us. The false perceiving of ringing or vibrating cell phone has led to the invention ofphantom vibration syndrome. The root cause of this syndrome still remains unknown, but it is believed to be associated with smartphones. When a person becomes dependent to his/her phone, the cerebral cortex sometimes misinterprets as if the phone is vibrating or ringing.
As of today, there is no exact solution to treat phantom vibration syndrome, but one can try carrying his/her phone in different positions. Turning off the phone’s vibration, changing ringtone or using different device altogether are ways to cure the phantom vibration syndrome.
