IS STREET FOOD SAFE TO EAT?

 Every student that have studied in colleges or universities, have eaten street foods. They are just around the corner of the school and are spotted immediately. Are these foods safe to eat? Can I not be inflicted with any diseases if I eat this? In terms of how safe is the food we eat in the streets is the less of our concern as Filipinos. As Filipinos, we would rather choose lower price than sanitation. We have this always in our mind, if it is cooked with heat and fire; it is safe for us to eat.

As the Philippines is progressing rapidly, Filipinos find ways to still enjoy street foods without tearing our pockets. For this reason, it is impossible to die of hunger in the Philippines. Street food vendors can be found practically everywhere where there are lots of people; it can be outside the school, beside the church, at the street corners, even inside jeepney or bus terminals we can find them.

Street foods are very popular to people who has to keep a tight budget. No matter how tight our budget is, we should consider safety first in selecting our street foods. Here are some of the guidelines to consider in buying street foods:

1.      The place is a safe place to eat and there are no hazards nearby

2.      Foods are ordered and then cooked

3.      All food ingredients are stored separately

4.      Cook station appears to be clean and orderly

5.      Food handlers are wearing gloves and hairnet

6.      All utensils are keep clean and washed immediately

7.      Frozen products are placed in a clean coolers

8.      The water used in cooking are filtered and clean water

9.      Sanitary permits are hanged and are visible on every food cart and stalls

In considering the above guidelines, eating street foods will always be an enjoyable experience in the streets.
