President Rodrigo Duterte on his first SONA on July 25, 2016 assured the Filipino people to be provided with a faster Internet connection

LEVERAGING INTERNET CONNECTION

It has been an object of tirade from our president Rodrigo Duterte, the slow internet connection provided by the two giant TELCOS in our country. Because of the lack of competition, complaints after complaints are filing each day due to slow internet connection.

During the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte on July 25, 2016, he assured the Filipino people to be provided with a faster Internet connection. He asserted that free Wi-Fi connections in most public areas and public offices in the country will be experienced by the people. Duterte further said that with the creation of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) it will foster the development a national broadband plan to accelerate the deployment of fiber optic cables and wireless technology to improve internet speed.”

Now, three years had passed after his first SONA, still the third TELCO that will provide competition is yet to arrive. Nevertheless, what the president had promised he delivered in providing free fast internet connections in public places especially in NAIA, seaports, municipalities and majority of government offices if not all.

Prior to the presidents first SONA, fiber optics connection in only limited in key major cities but with the mandate of the president to foster fast internet connection it has now reach the provinces. Places that can only be reach with a Broadband internet connection with a limited 3Mbps speed is now enjoying a boast of fiber optics connections at 20Mbps.

With the boast of fiber optics connection, indeed change has come in leveraging our countries’ internet connection.
