Anyone can be a parent, could be of a biological or of an adopted child. But, only some can give parental guidance. In a child's point of view, I can tell if your mom has given you guidance or if your dad has been responsible for your growth. Your parents, guardians or caregivers are the shapers of your personality. Have you realized guidance have driven you to be who you are at the moment.
Parental guidance along with the parents' attitudes, are the building blocks of the self. Heinz Kohut, a personality theorist, neurologist and a psychoanalyst, emphasized the early mother-child relationship as the key in understanding child's later development. He sees human relatedness in the core of human personality. Furthermore, another theorist hypothesized that attachments built during childhood have an essential impact on adulthood. Our judgments and view of the world are primarily formed with the influence of our parents because our first interaction was eventually with them.
While guiding us, parents are also following our growth. They are aware that their guidance can go both ways; develop our confidence and sense of security in exploring the world or cause doubt in our own capacity in trying new things. Reality can tell that a man can change and continue on changing as long as he lives. Yet, these changes will always evolve with the touch of the known parental guidance.
