Every day we are exposed to different sights and ideas we allow our eyes to see. From what we see in the neighborhood, on TV and even in the internet, it no longer becomes a wonder if one day soon we become who fear to be because of how we let it affect us.
We should be aware that we unknowingly get affected by what we let into our minds. It first enters our minds, circulates in our minds and then takes root in our hearts. We become the social climber we so loathe in social media. We become the “victim” that we always wanted to be like the ones we see on TV. Soon enough, we are copying our neighbor’s unhealthy lifestyles because we didn’t put a filter to keep our eyes from the sight. I am not saying we escape from reality by avoiding it but what I am trying to say is that if we don’t want to be like them, then we should stop looking at them.
If we want to keep our lives simple, then let’s refrain from looking at all the things we can’t afford in the social media but work hard instead to be able to earn and save money. Instead of trying so hard to be like that beautiful and sexy model we see in magazines, why we don’t try being thankful for what God has given us than hating ourselves for being so imperfect. We don’t need the handsomest guy or most beautiful gal as a spouse just to have the perfect marriage, nor the grandest and costliest smartphone just to be able to enjoy life. We don’t also need to be picture perfect just to be loved or to have the most expensive clothes to look cool. What we really need in life is simplicity and the things we allow our eyes to soak in are taking us far from that truth.
As we live for the day, let us keep in mind that what we allow our eyes to see will eventually affect what our hearts will believe and stand for.
