Every once in a while, we let our healthy daily diets escape us. So we up getting backed up and have some trouble going to the bathroom for maybe a day or two. But even then, the bloating, discomfort, and abdominal pain can be unbearable. That’s why we were blown away to hear about someone who had been backed up for 22 years!

A 23-year-old Chinese man named Zhou Hai had nearly 30 pounds of feces removed from his body after it became impacted in his colon. After complaining about abdominal pain that was making it hard for him to breath or talk, he made his way to the hospital. Once he was admitted and had a CT scan, it revealed that his colon was filled with exactly 28.6 pounds of feces! Over, over the course of two decades, it had caused it to become extremely inflamed and distended.

“It looked like it could explode at any time,” said Yin Lu of Shanghai Tenth People’s Hospital, he and others performed the surgery.

Most Common Symptoms of Hirschsprung’s Disease
In addition to the absence of bowel movements in their first couple of days of life, other symptoms may include:

a) Swollen belly
b) Vomiting, including vomiting a green or brown substance
c) Constipation or gas
d) Diarrhea
