HUNDRED ISLANDS by Salome Carlos
2011 when we visited the beautiful Hundred Islands and since then, there's a lot of improvements of this beautiful tourist destination. That is why our family are excited again to view the majestic sceneries in Alaminos.
The Hundred Islands National Park (tourist spot) is the first national park and a protected area located in Alaminos, Pangasinan in the northern Philippines. The islands, totaling 124 at low tide and 123 at high tide, are scattered in Lingayen Gulf covering an area of 16.76 square kilometres (6.47 sq mi). Only three of them have been developed for tourism: Governor Island, Quezon Island, and Children's Island.
The islands are believed to be about two million years old. There are actually ancient corals that extend well inland, in an area previously comprising the seabed of an ancient sea. The lowering of the sea level have exposed them to the surface. The peculiar "mushroom-like" shapes of some of the islands were caused by the eroding action of the ocean waves.
How to Get to Hundred Islands
Alaminos City is the gateway to the Hundred Islands National Park. It is around five hours by public bus from Manila.
Victory Liner, Solid North Bus, Dagupan Bus, Five Star Bus and Philippine Rabbit have multiple trips daily to Alaminos City. Aircon bus fare as of January 2018 is approximately P400 one-way Manila to Alaminos, while ordinary (non-aircon) bus fare is around P350.
From Alaminos City proper, ride a tricycle going to Barangay Lucap’s Lucap Don Gonzalo Montemayor Wharf, this is where the Tourism Information Center is located. Tricycles charge P15 per person and depart when full, chartered rate is around P100 per ride good for five to six passengers.
The tourism office set standard boat rates to Hundred Islands National Park from Barangay Lucap (as of April 2012)
If you have plans to visit the place you can contact the Tourism Office in Alaminos.
